Orientation Week

The Mount Allison Students’ Union is responsible for working in tandem with Mount Allison’s Student Life department to organize Orientation Week. This year, the Orientation Chair is Meghan McCracken. Meghan is doing an Honours in Commerce with a minor in Psychology and brings forth a breadth of knowledge of residence life having spent her second year as a residence assistant in Windsor Hall. If you’re looking to get in contact with Meghan, please email orientation@mta.ca.

Preview Day

Preview Day is the perfect (and free!) way to knock some items off your to-do list. Not only will you be able to receive your MtA ID card, solidify your course selection or purchase your books, but you can also learn about academic success, financial literacy, and campus life. If you are able to attend Preview Day on Monday, August 8, 2016, it is highly recommended!

Pre-Orientation

Mount Allison offers two pre-orientation opportunities: International Orientation and Meighen Centre Orientation. International Orientation provides international students the opportunity to adjust to Canadian and university culture. The Meighen Centre is an award-winning centre for students with disabilities. The Meighen Centre Orientation will help students living with disabilities or medical conditions transition into university life.

Move-In Day

September 1 is the first day that students are able to move into residence. Please aim to arrive between 9:00am-3:00pm. Orientation events begin at 3:30pm. When you arrive to campus, the Orientation Team will provide assistance moving in to your residence. After moving in, you will need to pick up your Orientation Welcome Pack at the Wallace McCain Student Centre. Plan to arrive early so that you can beat the lines, grab a complimentary lunch at Jennings Dining Hall, and get your room settled.

Orientation Week

Orientation Week is a fantastically fun week! Upper year students have said time and time again that if they could do it again, they would in a heartbeat. Orientation Week is free, however, to gain access to all events, purchasing an Orientation Welcome Pack is recommended. The package will include: an all-inclusive bracelet that gives you access to all events, the official MtA Orientation 2016 t-shirt, a student planner, laundry bag, and more! Find the link to order an Orientation Welcome Pack here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/mount-allison-university-orientation-2016-welcome-pack-registration-26407584797.

Some of my closest Orientation Week friends and I stuck it out, got slimed, and generally made the most of what many people unfortunately missed out on. Favourite Orientation Memory: On Move-In Day I was running particularly late and ended up being one of the last in my house to arrive that day, which only made me even more nervous for moving. Most people had everything moved into their rooms and most of campus was on the football field yelling and cheering. As soon as I pulled up next to residence with my car filled with all of my junk, there were orientation and house staff waiting for me. Before I knew it they had ambushed my car and were moving all my stuff up to my room! My RA handed me a green shirt (house colour), turned me the other way and said, “See all those people cheering on the field? Put this on, and join that green mass of people! Quickly!” The next thing I knew I was running, cheering, and proclaiming my love to a house full of complete strangers who have now turned out to be some of my closest friends.
