Our objective is to connect students through social and academic events during the school year.     We are a student-run exec representing the Biology community at Mount Allison University! During the school year, we run stress relieving events such as barbecues, a department mixer, off-campus socials, biology appreciation week (including clothing sales), an honours party and a biology formal.

    We can also help you out academically as we offer midterm tutorials for requested courses, exam prep sessions for 1st and 2nd year courses and help finding tutors.

    Pre-Dental Society

    The MtA Pre-Dental society is a club for students who think they may pursue a career in oral health. We will provide help and support to students studying for the Dental Aptitude test and applying for dental school. We will also be creating opportunities to initiate oral health outreach on campus and in the Sackville community.

    The Pre-Med society aims to encourage interest in the medical field after graduation. As a society, we want to spread information regarding medical school application requirements, interviews, and the MCAT to prospective undergraduate students anticipating to apply to medical schools. We want to create a collaborative space where we prepare one another for the application process. Being able to share information and speak to others going through the same process can help ease the anxiety and fears that are common when beginning to apply to medical school.

    The Pre-Optometry Society aims to bring students together that share a similar passion. To help guide students in the right direction and educate them on the many opportunities that the field has while sharing tips and tricks with graduate universities. Meetings will be held throughout the school year to discuss study groups, what I wish I knew, talking about application processes, the entrance exam and much more.

    The Psychology Society provides social and academic services for students in the psychology program or those interested in the field of psychology.     The Women in Science Society at Mount Allison aims to encourage interest and engagement in science and increase involvement and participation in STEM fields at the elementary, middle, high school and undergraduate levels. In order to achieve this at a local level, we host after-school programs at the local elementary school. We feel that it is imperative that young girls have proper role models who can encourage and foster their strengths. We believe that having role models who believe in you and can provide opportunities in science will support growth in male-dominated fields such as physics and engineering.

    The Caribbean student population is growing and the objective of the Caribbean Student Association is to provide a home away from home for students from the Caribbean and with Caribbean descent. If our request for the Caribbean Society Association is approved, we will educate others that are not familiar with the Caribbean Islands by hosting trivia/game nights, parties based on Caribbean music and themes, host sporting events, and other social activities. Also, we would like to host study sessions that is Afro-Caribbean led for academic resources.

    The Atlantic Student Research Journal is a student-led initiative designed to bridge the gap between the academic community and the general public. Our goal is to render research more understandable for the average reader and to facilitate a social framework to expose students to research and innovation. Through an online platform, we provide articles on local researchers and their work, which allows readers to understand research and its applications. Using social media and campus events, we create opportunities for students to learn about research and engage with their community. We believe in inspiring the next generation of researchers, leading to a more inquisitive society in Atlantic Canada and beyond.

    The Atlantic Wildlife Institute is a rehabilitation centre for wildlife that has been impacted by our society.     We encourage enjoyable, good-spirited discussions while teaching some formal outlines for competitive debating. We compete occasionally in tournaments, so there is a chance to travel, but for most of our meetings on campus, we pick topics, split into groups and debate, with feedback from senior members afterwards.

    Eco-Action is a group that focuses on environmental activism and its accessibility to students. Our group is interested in creating a space wherein students can discuss environmental issues and take action on said issues by creating awareness around campus and in the Sackville community. Campus Climate Challenge and Lettuce Eat are two ongoing events that Eco-Action has hosted; these events focus on decreasing our campus’ carbon footprint, promoting sustainable living and encouraging environmental discussion on campus.

    Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and holistic development organization. Over the past eight years, Mount Allison volunteers and professionals from the surrounding area have travelled to Honduras during the Winter reading week to deliver much-needed medical services and assist communities in their efforts to improve overall quality of life.

    Sackville’s Relay for Life is a 6-hour event that raises awareness and funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

    Right to Play MTA

    We play chess in a relaxed atmosphere. We aim to create a community where players of all skill levels are able to play and enjoy chess, as well as foster a competitive environment that reflects on the greater chess community.

    Conduct Becoming

    In March 2001 the Conduct Becoming: Voices Against Cancer organization, comprised entirely of volunteers, released their first professional quality album on the campus of Mount Allison University in Sackville New Brunswick. The album was intended to be a way of showcasing the quality and diversity of the Mount Allison student music scene. The CD featured pop, hard and soft rock, folk, blues, alternative, swing, celtic and much more. All of the tracks were entirely original and written and performed by student musicians. The album was a huge success on campus and quickly developed a fan base eager for more top quality tracks from their peers.

    Conduct Becoming has since grown to reach out to emerging artists as a platform for artist development while still holding true as a supporter of Canadian cancer research. The project has helped launch the careers of many local East Coast musical talents including Mike Allison, In-Flight Safety, Jon Epworth, and Allison Lickley.

    Creative Writing Society

    Creative writing is an informal group of aspiring writers with a wide range of interests (poetry, prose, novels and many more!). The group meets weekly (with cookies!) to write and have a good time.

    Cyber Security & Ethical Hacking Club

    The Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking Club aims to educate and learn about the cyber threats organizations and individuals face every day. Alongside learning the fundamentals of one of the fastest-growing and one of the most sought-after professions.

    Garnet & Gold Musical Theatre Society

    Garnet & Gold Musical Theatre Society was founded in 1932, making it one of the oldest and largest societies on campus.

    Every year, G&G presents a large-scale Broadway musical in Convocation Hall which involves over 100 members. University students and community members come together to create the production, including all technical and musical elements. G&G is an all-inclusive society, so even if you only sing in the shower, you are welcome to join!

    Graduate Student Society

Additionally, group members will aim to support their fellow grad students by attending and celebrating various research milestones like the completion of dissertations or defences.

    Mature Students Club

    The Mature Students Club will work in the best interests of mature students at Mount Allison University. The Mature Students Club will build community, raise awareness of academic and non-academic resources, socialize, and provide mutual peer support among mature students attending Mount Allison University.

    Model United Nations MTA

    Model United Nation Conferences are an opportunity for students to be immersed in global issues. It runs as a simulation of the United Nations focusing on relevant or historical issues.

    Participants are assigned to a committee as well as a country for the duration of the conference. Research beforehand will be involved in order to best represent the foreign policy of the county assigned. Using this information, participants are challenged to apply the foreign policy of their country to the topics of their committee. Utilizing current Rules of Order and Procedure of the United Nations, participants engage with the committee topics. Through debate and draft resolution papers, participants collaborate to create solutions and ultimately create final resolutions.

    All in all, Model United Nations Conferences are a great way to develop a deeper understanding of global issues, and foreign policy, improve public speaking skills, and connect with like-minded individuals.

    MTA Movement Collective

    The MTA Movement Collective offers dance workshops 1x/month for beginners and advanced dancers. These classes are taught in a fun and non-competitive environment. It aims to promote an inclusive space for creativity and artistry where a range of dance styles can be explored. This is fully organized and planned by students as well as members of the Sackville community.

    MTA Presents: The Improv

    Presents: The Improv is MTA’s local improvised comedy group, performing for the MtA community every Wednesday night at the Pond.

    PowerPoint Society

    The PowerPoint Society aims to provide a space for Mount Allison students to develop and practice public speaking and presentation skills in a casual, fun environment. This will be achieved through hosting opportunities to present fun slideshows in a “PowerPoint Night” and through hosting workshops with experienced presenters.

    S.M.I.L.E. is an organization run by the CEIP in partnership with Mount Allison University and the Amherst YMCA that takes place every Saturday morning throughout the academic year. It is a program that pairs Mt A students with children and youth with special needs and allows for the child to participate in a fun-filled gym and pool program each week.

    The Swing Dance Society exists to spread the joy of swing dance to everyone. We have free dance classes, for everyone between beginner and danced level. We hold a couple of swing bashes a year, for people who want to socialize and swing dance at the same time. And we have an optional end-of-year dance show to show off all that we’ve learned.

    Mount Allison Tabletop Gaming Society brings together students with common interests and hobbies to make friends and keep stress levels low. Our objective is to bring together people of various backgrounds to engage in an inclusive safe space to enjoy tabletop games.

    The Textile Arts Society aims to provide an inclusive space for students with an interest or background in the textile arts to connect and learn from one another through monthly gatherings. We also hope to host workshops centered around difficult mediums (such as sewing, crocheting, knitting, macrame, and more that would offer students the opportunity to share their knowledge or learn a new form of fiber arts.

    Experienced and new climbers have mostly been climbing solo since the pandemic began, and have thus been robbed of the wonderful community aspect of the sport. This club is the perfect opportunity to create a climbing community amongst both beginner and advanced climbers on campus to encourage a productive learning environment whilst forming new friendships through a shared passion for rock climbing!

    Ultimately our goal is to create a stress an anxiety free atmosphere for folks to try something new in advance their skill set in flexibility mobility and body weight strength. This club strives to accommodate any and all approaches to primarily indoor bouldering; first time climbing is a simple fun and relaxing pastime that gets your body moving and gives you a healthy break from studies and for others it's a serious full-time sport. Both mindsets are welcome and encouraged here!

The team participates in competitive dance competitions across the Maritimes and performs during half times for sports teams at Mount Allison.

    The goal of the women's field hockey team is to establish a safe inclusive and welcoming environment for all mount Allison students who wish to join the field hockey club. This club will allow students to gain experience in the sport field hockey through coaching and teammate instruction over the eight-week season. This club will hold practices on the mount Allison turf field twice a week as well as hold a fitness practice once a week. The mount Allison field hockey club strives to uphold the universities name each day and especially well on the field. The objective of this club is to be successful in games as well as coaching strategies to welcome all players no matter their experience and to represent the university in an honorable way on and off the field.

constitutions

ALL Clubs and Societies must have an up-to-date constitution. Constitutions will expire on May 1st and must be renewed by submitting a Constitution Form to the Vice President, Student Life, which can be found below.

NEW Clubs and Societies can be started by selecting the “I am starting a NEW Club/Society” in the form below. They must then be approved by the Students’ Administrative Council, which can take up to 3 weeks. Once it has been approved, you will gain access to funding, spaces, bookkeeping services, and more!

Each year, there are two Clubs & Societies Fairs that take place — one in each semester! Clubs & Societies can register for a table and promote their groups and attract new members! Keep an eye on our social media for more information about how to register.

ALL events on-campus at Mount Allison University require a Risk Assessment Form (RAF) to be filled out and approved by Student Life. RAFs can take up to two weeks to be approved — so plan accordingly incase of delays!

ALL Clubs and Societies are eligible to apply for the Clubs & Societies Fund, which supports events and initiatives that benefit the MASU membership (students!). Find the link below for application deadlines and more information.

ALL Clubs and Societies have an account with the MASU where funds are stored. Requests for reimbursements can be made by filling out a Cheque Requisition Form. Visit the MASU office for reimbursement inquiries or contact Nancy at masu@mta.ca. Please note that external club/societies bank accounts are strictly prohibited.
