MASU Executive

2024-2025

The Executive is a 6 person team responsible for managing the MASU. The President and the Vice-Presidents, Academic & University Affairs, External Affairs, and Student Life are elected positions voted on each winter.
The Vice Presidents Finance & Operations and Communications & Marketing are hired each winter following the election of the incoming President.

The executive are each responsible for managing their own individual portfolios and staff. The Vice-Presidents are overseen by the President, and the entire executive team is overseen by the Students’ Administrative Council.

Each member of the executive meets regularly with their staff, committees, and external organizations to collect feedback and create projects that can then be brought forward to the SAC and students - seeking collaboration at every level.

Students’ Administrative Council (SAC)

The Students’ Administrative Council acts as the Board of Directors for the MASU - responsible for governing the Union through the passing of policy, maintenance of bylaws and operating procedures, and overseeing the MASU executive and staff.

Ideas, concerns, and initiatives raised in committee meetings are brought forward to council where they can be motioned, discussed, and voted on. This is how student ideas and concerns are turned into tangible policies and motions to be put into place by the MASU, or brought forward to the University directly.

Councillors are elected either the winter preceding their term or in the fall when their term starts. Councillor positions are designed to represent areas of importance to students. To learn more about council and the positions available click here.

Committees

The MASU relies on over 200 student volunteers every year to help run our services, organize events, and sit on committees. These committees advise the Students’ Administrative Council on important issues and ensure the successful operation of our advocacy, services, events, and governance.

These committees are chaired by either a member of the Executive or a hired staff position. Examples of available committees include accessibility affairs, entertainment, sustainability, operations, and more.

Sitting on a committee is a great way to get involved if you don’t have much experience with the MASU, or if you don’t have a ton of time to commit.

Provincial & National Advocacy

The MASU is a member of the New Brunswick Student Alliance (NBSA), a provincial advocacy organization that represents the student associations of each university in New Brunswick to the provincial government, and a member of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations(CASA), a federal advocacy organization based in Ottawa. The Vice-President External Affairs and the President represent the MASU in both the NBSA and CASA.

The MASU and these organizations work with each other to advocate for post-secondary students on every level. Ideas brought forward by students to the MASU through committees, council, or our staff can be brought forward to CASA and the NBSA to be lobbied on a larger scale.
