Meeting Minutes

July 6th, 2020

BE IT RESOLVED (moved by Councillor Burke, seconded by Councillor Tobin) that the July 6th, 2020 Students’ Administrative Council Agenda be approved.

·      Agenda clearly passes.

4.     Approval of the minutes

5.     BE IT RESOLVED (moved by Councillor Burke, seconded by Councillor Tobin) that the minutes from June 22nd, 2020 meeting of the Students’ Administrative Council be approved.

·      Minutes clearly pass

6.     Executive Updates

 

VPAA:

Fall reading week motion:

·      A motion passed in University Senate to eliminate Fall reading week for this year.

·      A good discussion was had regarding the accommodations and flexibility professors will be extending under the circumstances. 

·      Thank you to the student senators for helping gather feedback before senate to help inform their motion. 

 

Councillor Burke presents her report on the Nimbus tutoring app.

 

VPE:

·      Councillor Thorburn was successful in her grant application, awarding the MASU $4000 in grocery store gift cards.

·      Bike co-op is open now! The first session has taken place and went smoothly.

o   Bikes are available Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday from the Bike co-op shed located behind the athletic centre.

9.     Open Forum

 

Q: How to obtain the gift card and how are needs for qualification assessed?

A: Councillor Thorburn: 

No details at this time the grant was awarded but details will be provided soon.

 

Q: Can you speak to the recent staff cuts and how that may impact student life, particularly with mental health concerns as reading week is now cancelled?

A: Councillor Burke: 

The new Provost, Kim Meade, and Anne Comfort all working on gathering and improving resources specifically to deal with the mental health implication of the pandemic situation in the Fall. A mental health task-force is being developed by Anne Comfort. A judicial committee is also being developed by the new provost to address student academic concerns regarding the pandemic.
