Meeting Minutes

September 28th, 2020 

1.     Call to Order: 6:10

2.     Land Acknowledgement 

3.     Approval of the Agenda 

BE IT RESOLVED (moved by Councillor Burke, seconded by Councillor Ferguson) that the September 28th, 2020 Agenda of the Students’ Administrative Council be approved.

a.     Motion from Councillor Penney to amend New Business to table Constitution in Agenda 

b.     Agenda clearly passes 

4.     Approval of the Minutes 

BE IT RESOLVED (moved by Councillor Tobin, seconded by Councillor Thorburn) that the Minutes from the September 16th meeting of the Students’ Administrative Council be approved

a.     Motioned by Councillor Thorburn to correct the date of the Town Hall from August 30th to August 31st

b.     Minutes clearly pass

5.     Business Arising from the Minutes (no items)

6.     New Business 

a.     Motion to allow the CRO to notify elected candidates of the Fall MASU elections immediately following the due to Council Planning taking place on the 3rd and the 4th (motioned by Councillor Richardson, seconded by Councillor Ferguson)

a.     Councillor Ferguson: Just to clarify, this would only be for this particular election? 

                                               i.     Councillor Richardson: Yes that is correct, due to time constraints and providing notice for Council Planning. 

b.     Motion clearly passes

 

7.     Open Forum

a.     Councillor Tobin: Can we get an update regarding loosening restrictions in residence? 

                                      i.     Councillor Penney: Councillor Ferguson and I have received an update that residence is moving into Phase 3, which means wearing a mask outside of your room, physical distancing, no outside visitors, lounges open 24/7 with no alcohol, and permitted one person from residence to visit a friends room. 

                                    ii.     Councillor Ferguson: to clarify we are still in phase 3, there have been slight modifications to phase 3 allowing for changes in residences. 

                                  iii.     Councillor Tobin: what is the gathering limit within the lounges

                                   iv.     Councillor Penney: varies within each lounge in each house

b.     Councillor Blakney: Regarding Spring / Summer courses tuition – NB students were being charged an increased rate of Canadian student fees. NB students who took Spring/ Summer courses will be receiving a rebate for the increased fee.

                                      i.     Councillor Nolan: Thank you for sharing this Councillor Blakney!

                                    ii.     Councillor Blakney: If the students still attends the university they will receive credit going towards the next semesters tuition, graduating students will receive the money as a reimbursement and Shane Carrol will get in contact with them directly.

8.     Reminders

a.     Councillor Williams: Council Planning is coming up, you will be receiving an itinerary this week

b.     Councillor Richardson: Speeches for the fall elections are streamed tomorrow at 7pm, and voting takes place from 8:30 Thursday until 8:30pm Friday.

c.     Councillor Thorburn: Foodbox orders are due tomorrow! 

 

9.     In Camera 

 

a.     Motion to go in camera (moved by Councillor Nolan, Seconded by Councillor Penney). 

b.     Motion to hire Angelica Whiteway and Amy Walker as Allisonian Editors (moved by Councillor Penton, Seconded by Councillor Nolan)

a.     Motion passes with three abstentions and one nay

c.     Motion to hire Kayla Blanchard as Deputy Chairperson (moved by Councillor Penton, Seconded by Councillor Nolan)

a.     Motion passes 

 

10.  Adjournment 

 

Motion to adjourn the Students’ Administrative Council (moved by Councillor Ferguson, seconded by Councillor Cormier) until the next meeting on September 14th, 2020. 

o   Meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.
