Meeting Minutes

5.	Executive reports
President:
i.	Recent work has mostly focussed on orientation and return of students
ii.	Continued work on the fire response, helping students secure financial and other resources.
b.	VP Academic:
i.	Nimbus has launched with lots of tutors and students registered on the app
1.	Currently helping to address various tech problems
ii.	OER’s: 
1.	Met with VP’s from the other Maple League Schools- launching an OER campaign the week of October 19th.
iii.	Continuing to meet regularly with the Provost
iv.	Met with Senate to discuss the changes to the Winter Academic calendar
1.	Disappointed with the decision to push winter break back by one week as it did not line-up with student feedback
v.	Sent out the academic newsletter with the Meighen centre
vi.	Looking into mock MCAT and LSAT test dates 
c.	VP External affairs
i.	Currently focussing on the election day voting issues
1.	Over a hundred eligible student voters turned away at the polls
ii.	Fire response:
1.	Working with the Executive Director of the NBSA to get in touch with the Rental Tenancies Tribune who are now dealing with the issues on their end
iii.	Continued GOTV and NBSA work
iv.	Sat as a panellist for the TTFC Town Hall Held August 30th
v.	Pairing up students for off-campus food support as needed
d.	VP Finance
i.	Governance: working on a new set of bylaws
1.	Proposing “Governance review committee”
ii.	Campus trust: lots of meetings, currently working on the strategic plan
iii.	RBC sponsorship maintenance
iv.	Hiring is open!
e.	VP Student Life
i.	C&S: Clubs and societies training, and fair took place
1.	Looking to make a clubs and societies Teams account to communicate with executives all in one spot
2.	Elections New Brunswick voting issue
a.	Helped advocate for students voting alongside Councillor Thorburn, and two other students
3.	Mounties wear masks campaign!
4.	Dr. Betti Covid-19 information talk is happening tomorrow
5.	Working to continue training and supporting residence teams as they continue to fill their spots
f.	VP Communications
i.	Lots of promotion surrounding the return to campus 
1.	Working with Anne Comfort and Adam Christie to help share important info provided by the University 
ii.	Working with Councillor Thorburn to promote GOTV and the GOTV giveaway she organized
iii.	Various media requests (return to campus, elections, etc.)
iv.	Fire Response: 
1.	Compiling a list of available off-campus housing to help relocate the affected students
2.	Helping to coordinate donations of furniture, clothing, etc. with local businesses
v.	Continuing to promote our sponsorship with RBC
1.	Met with RBC to discuss promotions for the virtual financial literacy event held early September.

a.	MASU Fall Hiring
i.	Need to hire for 5 positions
ii.	Need to reorganize hiring committees to account for the fact that this hiring usually takes place in spring- hiring panels are incomplete
1.	Motion to approve changes to the Fall Hiring committees as presented by Councillor Nolan

b.	MASU Governance Committee
i.	Motion to approve this as an ad hoc committee
(seconded by councillor Richardson, motion clearly passes)
c.	Clubs and Societies funding form
i.	Motion to approve the updated Clubs and societies funding form (motioned by Councillor Nolan, seconded by Councillor Penney, motion clearly passes) 
d.	Jeff “Skip” Fraser Memorial Scholarship application form
i.	Discussion: $3500 total and broken up between applicants and divided at the discretion of the finance committee
ii.	Will look into whether the award comes from donors or how the award is sourced
iii.	Motion to approve the updated application for the Jeff “Skip” Memorial Scholarship form

e.	Pre-dental society constitution
i.	Motion to ratify the Pre-Dental as a MASU society 
(Motioned by Councillor Penney, seconded by Thorburn, motion clearly passes)
f.	Community Connect Constitution
i.	Motion to ratify Community Connect as a MASU society
(Seconded by Councillor Tobin, motion clearly passes)
g.	Women in Commerce Constitution
i.	Motion to ratify Women in Commerce as a MASU society
(Seconded by Thorburn, motion clearly passes)
h.	Weightlifting society constitution 
i.	Motion to ratify the Weightlifting Society as a MASU society
(Seconded by Councillor Thorburn, motion clearly passes)
8.	Open forum:
a.	Councillor Richardson comment on the elections issue: Through simply voting, the MASU can narrow down a list of student voters for our election- why can’t election NB get their hands on a list of eligible voters from universities (by student number for example) to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
9.	Reminders: 
a.	October 3rd & 4th will be our council planning retreat.
i.	This is important and mandatory so clear your schedules!
b.	Fall elections- check out the MASU election Instagram and get your nomination packages from the MASU office or email Ian.
c.	Fall hiring: Five positions available- check our Facebook or Instagram for the application.
d.	Agendas are in and available in the lobby of the Student Centre.
